here. My congratulations to Township Chairs Sheri Jesiel (Benton), Lauren Fleming (Newport), and Marti Korpi (Zion) for putting together this outstanding event, appropriately held in The Adeline J. Geo-Karis meeting room of the library. The room was packed with an enthusiastic audience.
Last night, Lake County Clerk Willard Helander gave an outstanding presentation of why Lake County can now be considered "blue" and why Illinois is a "blue" state. For ardent Republicans, the facts she presented made for a number of uncomfortable moments. Charts and graphs were presented showing how right Republican candidates won Lake County wide elections and how wrong candidates fare.
There are a significant number of members of the Lake County Republican Central Committee who once felt that early voting would not impact elections. The leadership of that same Central Committee also once openly ridiculed using electronic devices such as I-Phones and I-Pads and programs to canvass and walk precincts, and using social media to spread the Republican message. They are now finally studying and looking into these matters. They should include Ms. Helander and others in their deliberations.
Ms. Helander was able to compare and contrast the GOTV (Get Out The Vote) efforts of the two major parties in Lake County the past few elections and highlight the strengths and shortcomings of each. She was able to highlight successful outreach programs that listen to voters including independents and Democrats, as opposed to preachy unsuccessful programs that target only Republicans. Of voter registration drives that reach deeply into communities. Of becoming more engaged in community events.
I would highly recommend that Republican organizations seek out Ms. Helander in the near future to listen to her presentation. This would include the Republican Illinois State Central Committee, Lake County Republican Central Committee and the Township Committees.
These Republican women leaders in Lake County were outstanding last night. Keep up the great work ladies. The party sure can use more of your ideas and help.
